Madeira Fibers
Sustainability from the Atlantic pearl to the world!
Sugarcane & Madeira: a marriage since 1400
Madeira was and is the largest of the few European places to grow sugarcane, which is used in the molasses and rum industry. The sugarcane biowaste (30% of its weight) is called bagasse and is unique fibre, perfect for sustainable and biodegradable goods. The Atlantic pearl and bagasse combined created our identity: MADEIRA FIBERS.
We Truly Care
The main practice for handling bagasse was to let it rot on the land or burn it. MadFibers believes that preserving the beautiful island is of utmost importance, as well as helping society be more ecologically aware. Therefore, MadFibers developed, together with scientific and engineering partners, a unique process that creates the first in the world 100% recyclable, compostable and sustainable bagasse based products.
Safe and Pure
Recent EU research has shown that many products claiming to be green and environmentally friendly actually contain many additives, such as microplastics and PFAS. These materials are banned, but are used by manufacturers to lower the price. Being based in the EU and working with EU partners, there is strict control and a guarantee that all our products are 100% sugarcane.
